List Manager Tutorial

Example: a simple contact directory with List Manager

▶ A 90-second video walkthrough of this example (English audio & subtitles). The written steps below cover the same ground.

A complete, minimal example: a public Authors / contacts directory — a searchable table of people with name, e-mail and dates. This is the “simple” worked example; a more advanced one (a property portal with filters, a detail view and export) is in the next tutorial.

1. The table

On the main page click Add Sample Data — it creates lm_authors with columns first_name, last_name, email, birthdate (date) and added (datetime), pre-filled with demo people. (Or build your own table with Database Options.)

2. Register the list

Add → Name Author → Database Table lm_authors → Save.

3. Fields

Open Fields/Columns. For each column set a friendly Name/Title (First Name, Last Name, Email, Birthdate, Added) and turn on Visible. Hide id. On the Advanced tab turn on Include in search for first name, last name and e-mail. Set the Type of birthdate to Date and added to Datetime. Save & Close.

4. Display

Display → keep the layout as Table, add a Default order on Last Name ascending, set the date format to d/m/Y. On Pagination set the default to 5 or 10. Save & Close.

5. Publish (menu + optional module)

Create a menu item of type List Manager → List Manager called Authors and select the Author list on the Options tab. Optionally add a List Manager module in sidebar-right showing the same list, assigned to that page.

Result

The finished contact directory

Visitors get a sortable, paginated table with a working search box — and can export it to PDF or Excel. Total configuration time: about five minutes.
