List Manager 6: managing records in the back end

Besides configuring lists, List Manager is a lightweight data editor.

The data grid

Open a list and switch to its data view (or open it from Historic on the main page). It shows the actual rows with the same search, filters, totals and pagination as the front end. The buttons you can add to its toolbar (on Data Layout) are:

  • Add (a.k.a. New) — create a record with the add/edit form.
  • Edit — open one record, or edit a single cell inline when the field’s Editable option is on.
  • Bulk Update — set one field on many selected rows at once (fields flagged Bulk).
  • Delete — remove the selected rows.

Add / Delete are primary actions; Edit and Bulk Update are secondary — the same colours Joomla uses in its own toolbars. The identical buttons work on the front end too when the list’s permissions allow it (see the two-lists permissions example).

Import from CSV

Use the CSV import to load many rows at once: upload the file, map each CSV column to a list field, choose whether to insert only or update existing rows by a key column, and run it.

Historic

If history is enabled (see the Advanced tutorial), Components → List Manager → Historic lists every change with who made it and when, and lets you roll a value back.

Removing a list safely

Delete removes only the List Manager configuration — your data table stays. Use Delete Database table only when you really want the table gone.
