Calc Builder 6: overview and the main component page

Calc Builder lets you build interactive calculators — quotes, loan simulators, unit converters, scoring forms, price estimators — from an input form, an optional piece of code and a result template, with no need to write a Joomla extension. This first tutorial is a quick tour of the component.

Opening the component

In the Joomla administrator, open Components → Calc Builder. The landing page lists every calculator on the site.

The toolbar

ButtonWhat it does
Add Create a new calculator.
Import Load a calculator from a .json file previously produced by the Export button (on this or another site). Handy for backups and for copying a calculator between sites. Only .json files are accepted.
Export Download the selected calculator(s) as a .json file.
Delete Permanently remove the selected calculator(s).
Options Component-wide permissions and default settings.

The calculator list

Each row shows the calculator’s Id, Name and an Info note. Use the search box, the ordering drop-down and the paginator above the list to find a calculator quickly.

Click a calculator’s name to open the Calculator configuration screen — the hub where you set up the form fields, the code, the layouts and the spreadsheet.

The examples throughout these tutorials use a Joomla 6 site with three calculators: a leftover test one, a simple Tip Calculator and a more advanced Loan Calculator with an amortization schedule.
