Hi,
we've started to study your list, and we did see the list created but without data inside, so we guess you didn't complete the import process or maybe you deleted the data afterwards, so we have started from scratch, following these steps:

- Selected 'import from Joomla 3, selected the original LM Joomla 3 list and created the 'thefallenww1' table.
- Created the list MS The Fallen WW1, and configured its fields (all visible, text, and searchable). We didn't published the field 'date of death' because we saw it was empty on the previous configuration
- Configured pagination and a couple of filters (one combobox that filters on every change, and one text filter that needs to click 'apply' on the fronend to launch.)
- Configured Display with 'show only user records'=>NO and frontend display with a couple of toolbars on top and one toolbar for the bottom, where we dropped in the filters, pagination and search options.
- We published under the Fallen of WW1 index menu

You can change the options as needed, hope this will give you enough information to start with your own configuration. Please let us know if you have further questions about any specific option.

we are just now working on your site, and we found out the problem is not your configuration or missunderstanding, the origin of the issues is that in the previous version you had multiple fields with a 'inner name' (that was used to place the fields at the form) with spaces that supposedly weren't allowed. When finding these spaces the migration is having problems to create the new database columns, so it has problems with the fields 'First Name' Last Name...etc. As long as this fields are not used in the ordering or search, it works ok. So please give us some hours to fix the migration function, then everything should work normally and hopefully you'll find the configuration much more easy to understand.

We know this new version has a lot of changes compared to the previous one, because we integrated 2 different extensions into 1, adding all options of the 2 components, and that's why you find many differences on the backend. But all functions of the List are there, please let us to configure the first one properly and then you can decide if you want to configure yourself the rest or if you prefer to hire us to do it. We'll update the ticket as soon it's ready for you to check.

Hi again,
ok, we fixed the migration function in order to remove unwanted spaces, and we can see the resulting table with the proper names, it should work without problems now. Removed the previous table, launched the 'import from Joomla3' option, and we have configured the list again with:

- Search over first and last name (this is configured by selecting 'include in search' at each field configuration -> advanced)
- One filter 'Display->Filters' showing a combobox with all ranks (automatic)
- A default pager
- Then we placed (drag&drop) these elements into the list display at Display->Data Layout

We see the list behaving properly, please take a look and let us know if you still see any issue or if you need further help.

ok, great it finally worked.
Regarding your questions, the acl system now relies on the core Joomla configuration, because you can create as many configurations as you need operating on the same db table. So, for your case you can configure your main frontend table without edition option, and publish it for guests at your frontend. Now select your list->copy and add the edition option. Now publish this list/menu only for administrators. Guests will see the readonly version while administrators will access the editable one, allowing you to introduce other configuration changes as well in this view.

For the editor, at this time for edition on frontend only the tinymce is allowed, sorry. There are tens of 3rd party editors that can be enabled, but many of them showed conflicts/errors for ex when they are displayed at the frontend multiple times, or rendered inside a popup. Also many security problems can be related to front-end edition, and we can't ensure any editor it's error free, but still we receive all these issues as if they were errors of our component. It's difficult to give a proper support for this as we can't modify/fix other components code, so for future versions we'll probably give the option to enable your custom editor with a big warning 'at your own risk' to allow users to check if their selected editor can do the work.

Hi,
the first list showed a weird configuration at the 'default order' section (please see attached). We removed the duplicated entries and created a simple default order, and the records are displayed again.

For your other list, seem the db table you had was created before the new version with the migration fix was installed. If you select now 'import from Joomla3' and create a new table based on this list, it will create all fields without the unwanted spaces, same way it did for the previous table.

Hi,
it's ok, you only have to set the fields you want to search in. For ex, if you want the search function to look in the 'surname' column, you have to enable the search for it:

Fields->Main=>Select a type for the field (for ex. Text)
Fields->Advanced->Include in search => YES
Fields->Advanced->Search Type => 'Broad' or 'Exact' (here you choose whether the search must be exact to find a match, or whether it will find matches using 'parts' of the text)

Same for any other fields you want the search to apply to.

Hi,
ok, we don't mean the 'type' of the column at the database, that is properly set. You need to specify the type of the form field of the list. It sets the way the field will show when entering the input form, and also the way to search data. That must be set at the fields configuration, Fields/columns->Main tab, please check screenshot to see which is the parameter that needs to be selected.

ok, with this table the problem is the same we mentioned above, it seems you're creating a new list based on a db table that was migrated before the fix for the column names (josbe_SaltleyReformatoryAdmissions), because it contains a wrong column name 'Admissions Number' that is breaking your searches. You need to migrate the tables this way:

Import data from Joomla 3-> Select the list, and give it a new db name. We did it applying the name 'josbe_msreformatoryadmissions'. This table has now been created with the right column name Admissions_Number, that you can see at Database options->edit db table (please check screenshots)
Then we have configured the search for this table into this surname field and the search work as expected, you can check it at the backend manager. We keep this table and list just for you to check, you can delete them from your site afterwards.

Please update again if you can't get it working.

Hi,
yes, the db table has now the right structure, with the correct column names, and the field has selected the 'include in search' flag with search type 'broad'. The only step missing is to set the field type at the fields main tab. We have recorded the configuration we did so you can check (see attached), first we tried to use the search (not working), then we set the field type and tried again, now the search is working as expected.
