Deprecation of utf8mb3

User Alex King 2025-08-28 20:03:37

Just as a heads up, I see that MySQL have already deprecated utf8mb3 encodings for database fields and are recommending upgrading to utf8mb4. However, I have experienced problems with the List Manager filter operations when fields are set to uft8mb4 and so have converted our database fields to be utf8mb3 to get the expected functionality. There's no date of course for the removal of utf8mb3 but I was wondering if supporting uft8mb4 field encodings is on your product roadmap?

Hi,
yes, sure, still utf8mb3 will be active until the mysql 8.0.x EOL (April 2026), but the actual utf8mb4 will be fully supported as well. We've not launched exhaustive tests on the filters using these columns yet, but if you've already found any specific issue, you can share it with us so we'll include the proper fix for next release.

Thanks, best regards
