Multiple Lists accessing same data 10.01.2014 13:59

I want to have two separate lists that access the same data. One list allows the user to edit his own data in the file and another allows him to see other users data but not to update it. This is done by using a key field associated with each user. Is this possible?
The only way I can do it so far is to export the data to csv and load it into the other list - but this is not really satisfactory.

Hi,
for that purpose you should use a single list, and create two different access to it, each one with different configuration to enable/disable edition. This way you can create one menu option with user rights to edit data, and another one 'view only'. Please check the parameter 'access control', you can find more information on pages 30/31 of the quick guide:

OK - thanks for the response. If you note from previous posts and tickets you have provided me with a filter that only shows the records for a particular user based on the 'member number' field in the list. The member can then update his records. This is done by a tweak to the code.

Using access control I can produce the same list and remove the editing capability but I need to list ALL records not just the one for the member in the second list.

This will allow all members to see the information for other members not just their own.

Any ideas?

Hi,
ok, if you have introduced any tweak to the code then you're forcing the component to show some specific data, you can't load that same list showing different data then. We'd suggest to give a try to a view on the same list, trying to overcome your tweak. Create a view for your list and publish with different parameters to try if all data is recovered.

This was solved as I did not need 2 views - one view filtered the data and by using the list itself I produced a full listing of all records. Thanks
